Obituary of Ingrid Kallenberger
Please share a memory of Ingrid to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ingrid Joanne Kallenberger passed away April 14, 2011. She survived three open heart surgeries, and breast cancer, but pulmonary hypertension and fibrosis caused her death. Although she was born and raised in Kansas, daughter of Oscar and Inga Swanson, she considered Murfreesboro her home, having lived most of her adult life there. She is survived by her husband, Klaus, her daughter, Kersten Fons of Brentwood; her son, Kris Kallenberger of Lexington, KY; two much beloved grandchildren; Kallen and Peter Fons of Brentwood. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Swanson of Topeka, KS; and her sister, Karolyn Sanders McDaniel of Maryland. Ingrid Joanne is remembered for her strong love of family and friends. She was known as Ingrid professionally and Joanne by her family.
She also loved teaching, reading, and gardening. She taught junior high school, high school and American servicemen overseas. Although her health was compromised, she also taught developmental writing part-time at Middle Tennessee State University for about eleven years. She was very excited when a student who had trouble writing was able to begin to express ideas clearly and well. Ingrid Joanne always had a book to read and lived a very full life through books, often mystery and adventure. She had a wide knowledge, especially of English Literature. She was upset when she could no longer garden, but still wanted to walk down to the garden to see what was surviving while she could do so.
A memorial for her will be held later this month. Instead of sending flowers, she requests that those who honor her memory contribute to the Linebaugh public library (105 W. Vine St., Murfreesboro, TN 37130)
