Donald G. Messer, 74 of Murfreesboro, passed away Friday, June 27, 2008 at Community Care of Rutherford County. Mr. Messer was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. He graduated from Bucknell University with a B.A. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for Armstrong World Industries in Lancaster, PA before transferring to Shaw Industries in Dalton, GA. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Messer is preceded in death by his father, Gordon Messer; his mother Ida Sterner; step-father, George G. Sterner; brother, Gordon W. Messer and his wife, Norma Jean Nace Messer. Mr. Messer is survived by his children and their spouses, Philip and Gwen Messer of Pittsburgh, PA, David Messer of Dalton, GA, Scott and Jennifer Messer of Athens, GA, Karen and Carlton Welch of Murfreesboro, TN; 2 grandchildren, Jason Messer and Benjamin Messer of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law, Regina Messer of Lancaster, PA; step-sister, Jolene Salvo of East Pittston, PA. A private service will be held for the family only. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association.
