He graduated from Central High School in 1969 and married the former Brenda Winn in June 1969. Phil and Brenda were married for 43 years. Mr. Overcast was sworn into the United States Air Force in 1970 and served twenty two and half years. Initially, he trained to be a heavy equipment operator with his first duty assignment at Eglin Air Force Base attached to the Red Horse Command. From Eglin, Phil and his family traveled to Alaska where he was assigned to Civil Engineering. His success lead him to be named the top Rookie Recruiter in the nation in 1977. After three years in Fayetteville recruiting, Phil and his family moved to a group recruiting headquarters in Sumter, SC. In Sumter, Phil completed his BS degree in Human Resources and was accepted into the USAF Officer Training Program. He graduated from Officer Training School in 1981 and was then stationed at Langley AFB, VA, where he served as a Logistics Officer for the Air Defense Command. His military love was recruiting, however, and he once again applied for recruiting duty as an officer. Phil then served as the Advertising and Publicity Officer for the Recruiting squadron based out of Salem, VA. After this assignment, he came home to Tennessee and was the operations officer at the Recruiting Squadron in Nashville, Tennessee. Phil loved God, his Family, and his Country. He will be sorely missed and grieved by all who knew him.
