Obituary of Gary Lumpkin

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
A celebration of the life of Gary Lumpkin will be held on Thursday September 20th, 5 pm 1307 N. Rutherford Blvd, Murfreesboro. Rather than to focus on Gary's valiant two year battle with death, he would very much prefer the limelight be shone on nearly six decades of his love of life, family, friends, God, music, humor, his country and the values of hard work. Gary was born September 22nd 1952 in Mississippi to Jewel Lumpkin and Overa Jones Lumpkin, later to be taken under the wing of Kay Irwin. A lifelong musician and song writer he traveled all around the United States playing Honky Tonks, Clubs and Concerts for the greater part of his life. Though Gary wrote many songs during his lifetime, he is best noted for a song he wrote called "Size Seven Round (Made of Gold)" which was written for Judy Lumpkin, his loving wife of thirty years; it was performed by country music legends George Jones and Lacy J. Dalton. It was always easy for Gary to make friends, and because he always traveled, he has friends all over the country. Gary was preceded in death by Overa Jones, Jewel Lumpkin, Kay Irwin, and Dennis Taylor. He is survived by his beloved children (Nelson, Chandler and Rachel Lumpkin), his cherished wife of thirty years (Judy Lumpkin), his loving brothers and sisters (Maxine Willis, Gerldine Orman, Ann Taylor, Joe Lumpkin and John Lumpkin), his brother in laws and sister in laws (Leroy Willis, Leslie Orman, Janie Lumpkin and Emily Lumpkin), his many cousins, neices, nephews and so many of his friends that he has made along the way during his journey through life. All are encouraged to attend who knew and loved this wonderful soul which the world is made the poorer by losing, but heaven is made the richer by gaining. The visitation is from 3-5 pm and the celebration begins at 5 pm at Belle Aire Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gary Lumpkin Memorial Fund at any Mid South Bank in Murfreesboro.
