Mr. William John Ekwall of Murfreesboro passed away on Friday, November 21, 2014 in the Tennessee State Veterans Home at the age of 89. Mr. Ekwall was born in Ottumwa, Iowa to the late Oscar William and Anna Johnson Ekwall. He was married to Delores Mae Schertz Ekwall who survives. In addition to his wife, Mr. Ekwall is survived by daughter Barbara and son-in-law Terry Gould, grandchildren Heather and Greg Lawson, and Great Grandchildren, MacKenzie and Joshua Lawson, all of Murfreesboro. Mr. Ekwall served in the US Army AirCorps during WWII. Sgt. William Ekwall was a top turret gunner on a B-24 with 33 missions over Germany. “Bill” was a tool and die maker by trade, an avid wood worker and model railroader. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may to be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation. Services will be held in the spring in his home state of Iowa.
