Coach Charles "Wildcat" Butler, 75, of Murfreesboro, left this Earth to be with his Savior on Sunday, November 28, 2010 after a ten year courageous fight with cancer. Charles was born on September 23, 1935 in Jackson County, TN to the late Carlos Fred and Laura Butler. He attended Bethel Murfreesboro. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife, Mary Young Butler; devoted children, Rick (Debbie) Butler , John (Nikki) Butler, all of Murfreesboro, Mary Lynn (Danny) Andrepont of Baton Rouge, LA, Walter Young Jr., Charles (Wendy) Young of Seattle, WA; eight wonderful grandchildren, Brittany, Chuck, Chelsea, Luke, Mary Kate, William, Finley and Quinten; brothers, Billy Butler of Gordonsville, Bobby and James Butler of Hartsville, Harold Butler of Gallatin; sister, Bonnie Woodard of Hartsville; numerous nieces and nephews. Wildcat began his thirty three years of coaching football at Hendersonville High School. In 1966 he came to Middle Tennessee State University until 1972. Wildcat coached for Colorado State University, Michigan State University, Bowling Green State University, Memphis State University, Louisiana State University, U.S.F.L.'s Oklahoma Outlaws and the San Antonio Gunslingers. He came back in 1987 to Middle Tennessee State University until 1993 concluding his coaching career. After retirement from coaching football Wildcat began his own company, C & M Enterprises, Inc as a residential contractor and developer which he was actively involved in for fourteen years.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 10:30 am at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Cantrell officiating. Burial to follow at Willow Grove Cemetery in Bethpage, TN.
