James "Jim" Hubert Barnes 73, of the Murfreesboro, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2009 after a long illness at NHC of Murfreesboro. Jim was born in Athens, TN on May 13, 1936. He was a veteran of the United States Army who served in Korea. He was a fireman for over 20 years for the City of Murfreesboro. He fought a good fight; he finished the race and now is resting with his Lord and Master. Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry Barnes; brother, Jackie Lee Barnes; and parents Lee and Mildred Barnes. He is survived by his son, James H. Barnes Jr.; daughter, Susan Barnes; both of Murfreesboro; Vicki Barnes Womack of Athens; brother, Vernon Barnes of Hixson; sisters, Margie (Harry) Harman of Lascassas; Joann (Dan) Snider of Murfreesboro; special sister-in-law Wanda Barnes of Woodbury; former wife, Jane Barnes; 5 grandchildren ; 3 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many cousins. Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 10:00am at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Gregory officiating. Burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
