Uncle Joe, Thanks for being the person you were. It was great having you for an Uncle with your playful ways, open ears and advice when I needed it. Your sense of humor and attitude toward life taught me a lot in my younger days. Maybe that is why Mother and Daddy gave me your name as my middle name. If anyone could ever make a request for the perfect Uncle they would have requested you. I was lucky in that I didn’t have to make a request; I was just fortunate enough to have been blessed with you as my Uncle Joe. I will always love you and miss you. To Aunt Lola and my cousins, you were blessed with a fine husband and father. Be thankful for having him for all these years. He loved you all and worshiped the ground you walked on. I know that you will all miss him as the rest of us will but you were fortunate enough to have him for many years. So now we celebrate his life as we know he has gone to another world to make others as happy as he did us. Danny Joe and Pat Cook

The death of my uncle, Joe, signals the end of a generation in my family and reminds us if we stand tall we do so on the shoulders of those who precede us. Known affectionately by friends and family as "Sally", he was so named by a friend of the family because he was such a pretty baby. He grew to be a lovely person full of love for life. Because of childhood spinal meningitis he lost much of the function on his left side. Yet, he modeled for all how to live with handicaps and approach life with pride and optimism. Joe was my favorite uncle and my roommate for the first eleven years of my life. He showered me with love and sang lullabies to me as an infant. What sweet memories he left me and now those memories lift my sadness and move me to celebrate his life.
