Moon, Steven Rhone - age 56 of Murfreesboro, died at home February 4, 2009 after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 28 years, Yvonne Moon; daughter, Emily (K.J.) Nelson of Charleston, SC; son, Steven Moon of Murfreesboro and future daughter-in-law, Angela Chapman of Smyrna. Survived by his loving sister, Donna Moon Rier of Manchester; devoted in-laws Robert and Beauton Moore of Brighton; brothers-in-law Bobby (Sharon) Moore of Germantown, Donnie Moore of Morristown; sisters-in-law Beth (Joel) Valone of Cherryville, NC; Debra Moore of Smyrna; four nieces, Amanda (Rollin) Devere, Amy Jones, Janelle Valone, Ashley (Clint) Page; six nephews, Cory Moore, Josh, Jeremy and Jordan Valone and James and Jeremy Eddleman. His parents, Johnny and Laverne Moon of Covington, TN preceded him in death. A devoted husband and father, Steve also loved playing guitar. As a teen, he played in his family's country/bluegrass band at the Lucy Opry and later in several rock bands in West Tenn. Steve served two years in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1974. In the late 1970s, he toured with a country band, playing in supper clubs and venues throughout the Midwest. Steve began his career as a draftsman in 1982 at Sunbeam Appliances in Memphis where he worked as a technical illustrator. For the past 14 years, he was a mechanical designer at Square D (Smyrna/Nashville). Visitation is Sat., Feb. 7, 4:00 - 8:00 p.m.; and Celebration of Life, 2:00 p.m. Sun., Feb 8. at the Murfreesboro Funeral Home, 145 Innsbrooke Blvd, (615) 896-2229 The family gratefully acknowledges the generous acts of kindness from so many during the past year, especially Steve's co-workers at Square D and members of Smyrna Church of Christ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Caris Hospice to continue providing compassionate care to others, just as they did for our loved one during his final days. Heartfelt thanks to Delores Custer, our very special hospice nurse who laughed and cried along with us.
