Obituary of Nancy Everett

Nancy Carol Blasingame Everett, born May 22, 1948, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2013 after a lengthy, rigorous and courageous battle with cancer. A native of Columbus, Mississippi, Nancy was a 1966 graduate of New Hope High School in Lowndes County, Mississippi where she was voted Most School Spirited. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tennessee in 1970 and her Master of Education degree in special education in 1975 from Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, Mississippi. During her professional career, Nancy taught in Little Rock, Arkansas, Starkville, Mississippi, and Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Nancy taught and helped implement the first behavior modification classroom for the Rutherford County School System. She also taught various elementary grades, special education, reading intervention, and privately tutored students. Nancy retired from teaching in 2008. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John Nelson & Carolyn Lacy Blasingame, and by her grandson, Eliott (Eli) Nelson Horton. She is survived by her husband, Mark Everett of Murfreesboro, her daughter, Erin Elizabeth Blasingame Greenfield and son-in-law Adam Greenfield of Austin, Nevada, her sister, Kay Blasingame - Boike, brother-in-law David Boike, her sister, Beth Blasingame, niece Paxton Lacy Cooke, all of Murfreesboro, her nephew, John Chance Cooke of San Diego, California, numerous extended family members, friends, and former students. Nancy was an avid reader, gardener, artist, genealogist, and a strong woman of Christian faith who never lost hope, her positive outlook, or gave up her fight to beat cancer. She was an alumnus of the Walk to Emmaus renewal movement. Her church family at Farris Chapel United Methodist Church provided her great support, and their vacation bible school is being held in her memory this year. A celebration of life memorial service conducted by Reverend Bob Tuttle will be held at Farris Chapel United Methodist Church (2914 Barfield Road Murfreesboro, TN 37128) at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 18. Visitation with the family will be prior to the service in the fellowship hall from 1:00 until 3:00.
