Obituary of William Tucker (Bill)
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Thomas Tucker, Sr. (Bill) passed away November 25 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
He was the son of Talbert Myers and Clara Tucker of Smyrna. He is survived by his mother ; by his wife, Jane; by his son, Dr. William Thomas Tucker, and daughter- in- law, Sandra Julia-Tucker, of Milwaukee; by his daughter, Jacqueline Claire Tucker, of Hollywood; by his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Ted Kemp, of Smyrna; nieces Wendy Graves (David), Kim Townsend (Joe), and Holly Hubbs (Bob).
Bill attended Smyrna High School (1951). He attended the University of Tennessee and the University of Minnesota. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Middle Tennessee State University. His doctoral studies were done at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, and Indiana University, Bloomington.
Bill taught sociology, and was employed by the Federal Courts of Northern Illinois in the Department of Parole and Probation.
We have lost a friend who had much to offer to good causes, who had the ability to acutely assess social and governmental issues with keen insight into potential measures toward the amelioration of world problems.
Bill was rich within his own mind and enriched the lives of his family and those close to him. His sense of humor was keen and a delight to the very end. He read avidly, and often read aloud - from classics to nursery rhymes, from novels and humor to, especially, political commentary. He enjoyed poetry and from time to time wrote poetry. He felt the need to comment on the political scene and often composed commentaries - which he never submitted.
A few years ago he expanded his appreciation of photography and developed a skill in producing beautiful pictures.
In addition to these interests, Bill had the gift of mechanical aptitude which he exercised in his love of cars, and which was evident in his ability to understand and work with mechanical objects.
It is suggested that, instead of flowers, contributions could be sent to a favorite charity, or World Wildlife Federation, or Nature Conservancy, or Save the Children, or Doctors Without Borders.
