Lydia A Vaughn, age 85 of Ashland City, TN; formerly Sullivan, Ky, and former longterm resident of Whitehouse, TN, passed away unexpectly, Saturday morning, Dec 28th at Centennial Tristar Hospital in Nashville, TN
She was born Jan 15, 1939, in Indian territory, in what is now Stigler, OK, to the late Edgar Issac Stamps and Eunice Peevyhouse Cannon.
She was named after the midwife, Lydia, (also known as Kitt), who delivered her. Her grandmother, Lois Peevyhouse, who was of Cherokee descent, called her Liddie Ann. For many years she chose to go by the name of Lee, only returning to her given name of Lydia, upon her last marriage.
She was also preceeded in death by her parents, Eunice Ovilla Peevyhouse Cannon, And Edger Issac Stamps, husband, Delmer Vaughn, of Sullivan, KY, her former husband, James Doc Brewington of Hendersonville, TN, younger brother, Hershel Cannon and his wife, Barbara, her younger sister, Sarah Raines and her husband, Kenneth, her youngest grandson, Robert Bryan Parrish, step-daughter, Doris Marie (Dottie) Guill and foster father/mentor, Deo C Christianberry.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Hampton (Marvin), sister Marda (Bill) Peek, brother Joe (Lena) Stamps, sister Lois Cannon (Robert) Sessions, brother Robert (Anna) Cannon, sister Margie Stamps, aunt Geneva Peevyhouse Byrd, oldest grandson, William (Tad) Parrish (Mercy), great-grandson, Gabriel Parrish, great-grandaughter, Chloe Parrish, Step-daughter(s), Marta McCollum and Debbie Vaughn, step-grandson, Norman Robert (Bobby) Lance, step-great grandaughter, Parrish Rose (Chicklet) Lance, step-great-grandson Robert Jayce “R J” Lance, several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins, her poodle, Biscuit, and several close friends, long considered as her extended family!
Dropping out of school in 8th grade to begin her career life, she worked in many areas over her life; as waitress at a mom/pop diner in CA, and the Congress Inn Diner in Nashville, TN.
She worked as a Nanny, while she worked her way through Delilah Academy of Beauty School, becoming a licensed beautician. She owned and operated two beauty shops in Hendersonville, TN, under the name Fashion Tress; one located on Old Shackle Island Rd, the other, on Stop 30 Road in Hendersonville, TN. She was honored to have been an occasional stylist for June Carter Cash and Tammy Wynette, during their early music career days.
A self proclaimed workaholic, she additionally served as a Special Deputy for the Sumner County Sheriff's office, under the direction of Sheriff Mayo Wix. She later became a Security Officer for Guardsmark Security, in addition to working for Circle K Stores as a Regional Manager for several years.
She went back and completed her High School education through Aaron Academy, in Hendersonville, TN., graduating at the age of 62.
Later, drawing upon all her career experiences, she helped her church in White House, TN develop/operate the King's Storehouse food/clothing ministry.
She additionally drove the children's ministry bus, chaparoning them to Gulf Shores, AL, and served as Mission Trip cook for them as well, in addition to volunteering for the Feed the Children Ministries.
She enjoyed league bowling, horseback riding, camping with friends and family and pulling practical jokes on her employees, co-workers, family and friends.
She loved to sing and dance and was often seen singing "You are My Sunshine" with her favorite diner waitress, Stacy. She was a competitive gamestress...enjoying playing Aggravation, Phase 10 and Hearts with Pastor Pete and our family/friends.
While Murfreesboro Funeral Home will be handling all the arrangements and transportation for Lydia and the flowers; visitation will be held on Monday, January 13, at 12 noon, at the Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 3216 Long Hollow Pike, Hendersonville, TN 37075, with the Celebration of Life Services to start at 1:30 p.m. afterwards.
Interment will be in the Beech Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery, located behind the facility. Dinner for Family/Friends will be held at the church fellowship hall afterwards.
She will be sadly missed!
