1963. I was looking for a drummer for a band I was going to start, and I heard about some kid over at the rival high school who was pretty good. He turned out to be more than pretty good. He turned out to be my best friend, my brother-in-law and the best man at my wedding. His sense of humor was outrageous and contageous, including such classics as imitating a pimple while eating mashed potatoes during dinner (disrupting the whole meal) and running around the house, outside, in the snow, in his underwear. He and I also used to drive around town at night, in our respective old fords, playing hide and seek with the headlights off. Crazy high school stuff. Great memories. I cannot believe he's now gone from this earth. He'll always be in my heart and mind.

Janice, Jeff, Chris and Amy, I sat next to and worked with Roy at The Travelers for a number of years. While I never met you, I feel as though I know you, since Roy spoke often of you all and loved his family. I considered him a good friend and great guy. My heart felt sympathy and condolences go to you. I'm sure he is in a better place and he will be remembered fondly. Jim, my condolences to you as well. I know you brothers were close. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Frank Sievel

I was in Roy's training class for contracts at Travelers back in the late 1970s. I never remember that he spoke ill of anyone and always had a sense of humour about life on the eighth floor. In addition, Roy had many interests, including his love for "muscle" cars and music, oldies and contemporary hits. It's sad to see someone who only brought joy into this world leave it. He will be remembered by many with a smile.

Janice, Jim, and family: Sharon and I send our deepest condolences. Peggy Kenney just let me know about Roy's passing. Roy is someone I must think of at least once a day, as my first boss back at The Travelers, and a dear friend when my wife and I lived in Connecticut. As fellow musicians, I recall us connecting instantly, from my first interview with him. I learned so much from him while always having a great time. That picture of Roy leaning back on his car with the hood open brings back lots of memories! I try to follow Roy's example every day in my interaction with my co-workers. We'll keep you in our thoughts. Love, Randy and Sharon Gordon

I am deeply saddened to read of Roy's passing. Although we had lost touch over many years, I still have fond memories of our growing up and young adulthood. I met Roy delivering the afternoon newspaper to "Big daddy" and Frans home on Caven Road. We became friends, trading baseball cards and plastic models kits we had assembled. We remained friends through high school, despite attending different schools. Later Roy went off to College in Virginia, and I served four years in the Air Force. We were reunited again to share another hobby;cars. We spent many an hour under the hood of various automobiles. We were hooked; buying the latest speed equipment, going to Conn. dragway or riverside speedway. We couldn't get enough. I was glad to see he kept the SS396. I remember the day he picked it up, wow a beautiful red machine. I would just like to say that my memories of Roy are, an upbeat, comical and positive thinking guy. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. Mike

My heartfelt condolences to the Otis family. I met Roy in 1986 at my very first "real job" at The Travelers in Hartford. He was my "boss" for a few years- although he was more of a friend than anything else. I'll never forget one particular story he shared with me about his car driving abilities. Let's just say he was proud of going fast. Roy, we will all miss you. Dennis

Jan, Jimmy, Jeffrey, Chris & Amy- We learned of Roy's passing about 15 minutes ago. To say that we're heartsick over this is an understatement. We can only imagine how all of you feel. Roy was our dearest friend. Both of us honestly loved him. Although we didn't get to see him much after he moved, he was still #1 in our hearts. There is no doubt in our minds that he presence here on this earth made it a better place to live because of his kindness, goodness and his wonderful sense of humor. All of you are in our hearts and prayers. Please let us know if there is anything, at all, we can do for you. Love always, Peggy & Rich Kenney
