My father started living at the TN State Veterans Home at the beginning of 2022, when I was 7 months pregnant with my daughter, Emma. After she was born, I took her to see him every day and still do. Mr. Coughlin, Georgie as Emma calls him, was an everyday part of her life and she grew to trust and love him. We'd sit and listen to Celine Dion with him, he let her shake his tambourine, he'd even write her name on various things to give to her and saved anything with her name on it (e.g a quote by someone named Emma), telling her it was a special message just for her. We really got to know and love him. He's definitely going to be missed by our family.

We wanted to express our sincere sympathy on the loss of your dad. He was one of a kind!
We met George through the Truba family. Gary Truba and George were best friends for many years.
George made many repairs on our house over the years. In every case, he was professional and his work was outstanding. He will truly be missed.

Dear Gloria and Ray: Thank you for saying nice things about my Dad. Your memories in writing are so very appreciated by me. You are listed in my Dad’s rolodex. My Dad told me about doing work for one of Gary‘s friends. And it was likely you. Take good care of yourselves. Sincerely, Cari (George’s daughter)

George was one of my dad’s best friends. They were friends way back when I was young. George, his wife and their kids would go over to Boblo Island together with some of my mom’s family for several years. We would all drive over the bridge and have a picnic in a park and then take the ferry to the Island where we would spend the day riding rides and having fun. But George has been a part of my life ever since because of his and my dad’s bond. My dad really loved George and so did I. He was always such a character and always in a good mood. I know he will be missed here on earth but welcomed in heaven by all who left before him. Prayers for all the hearts that loved him to heal.

Dear Mary: Thank you so much for writing. My Dad loved your Dad and talked about Gary often. My Dad talked about you too - he said you were pretty in a loving fatherly kind of way - and your Dad was always nice to me. One of the pictures I posted has my Dad’s handwriting at the bottom that says “w/Truba’s Bob-Lo-Island”. Take good care of You. Love, Cari

My Oui Oui Pa Pah. How you loved it when I called you that. I truly believed we had another 10-15-20 years together. Tears are falling now and have been. I love you with all of my heart and soul. I was blessed to have You in my life. I already miss seeing you every Monday and you and I going out to eat every other week. Initially, Two J’s Grille was your favorite, then Red Lobster, then Longhorn Steakhouse. We recently celebrated Father’s Day at the El Toro Mexican Restaurant (the photo chosen for your obit).
I miss singing and dancing and listening to music with you.
You were a joy, Dad. And not just to me. So many others. Thank you, Dad, for being my Dad.
I love You.
Your daughter,
Cari Coughlin Finch
To those who have already left messages and to those who will leave messages, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Hi Leslye. Thank you very much for allowing your daughter, Emma, to be a part of my Dad’s life. My Dad showed me clippings he was going to give to Emma and every time my Dad saw Emma when I was with him, he would lovingly point Emma out to me. You and Emma were a blessing to my Dad. And it was nice of your Dad to allow my Dad to be a part of Emma‘s life. Take good care of you and your family. Love, Cari

So blessed with a long life, but even with all those years I know they were not enough for those who held George so dear to their hearts. To his loved ones, I extend my deepest condolences. May the countless, fine memories of your beloved George forever warm your hearts and bring smiles to your faces, even behind tears shed. May you find comfort in knowing that death was never God’s plan, (Gen.1:28; Rom.5:12) and one day death will be no more, as (Rev.21:4) loved ones will be resurrected (Acts 24:15) with the hope of life forever in paradise, on earth, as (Ps.37:11,29) God intended. Until then, a fine man rests in God’s care and keeping.
