Obituary of Homer Sidney German Jr

Homer was born October 8, 1931 in Charleston, WV; passed away December 5, 2023 at the age of 92.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Helen K. German; son, Noel German of Nashville; daughter, Lorraine (Jeff) Petty of Bell Buckle. Four grandchildren: Brenna Morton, Ashleigh Mosley (Jimmy), Brittney German, and Joshua German (Sandi). Four great-grandchildren: Tarynn Morton, Nick German, Bayleigh German, and Isaiah German.
Three sisters: Liz, Elaine (Jo), and Barbara (David), and two brothers: Danny and Ed (Brenda).
Homer was predeceased by his parents: Homer S. German Sr. and Beda Mae German.
Homer graduated from Dupont High School in Charleston, WV in 1950. He enlisted in the United States Air Force that same year. He served his country for 20+ years and retired with distinction in 1971. While in the service, Homer served 20 years in Fire Protection and Education. He was stationed in Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Goose Bay Labrador, France, and England. He was a member of the USAF Men in Blue Choir. He attended the University of AZ. Homer also retired from Bridgestone/Firestone after 15 years.
Homer moved his family to Murfreesboro, TN in 1967 while he was stationed at Sewart Air Force Base in Smyrna.
Homer and Helen were life-long dancers: Ball Room, Square, Round, and Line. Homer taught and called Square Dancing locally for 27 years. He also taught and called Line Dancing at the Sinclair Street Senior Center for 20 years.
Homer was a Boy Scout Leader of Troop 364 in Murfreesboro. He was an avid golfer. Also, a participant of swimming and water aerobics at the Sports Com. He was a regular at Hardees on Memorial Blvd. for his breakfast group.
The family would like to recognize the wonderful doctors and staff that cared for Homer: Dr. Jeremy McDuffy, Dr. David Dantzler, and Dr. Ryan Thompson. Also, we would like to thank the wonderful and compassionate staff of Gentiva Hospice and their support staff.
The family would like to request no flowers. But if you wish to remember Homer with a memorial, the family asks that you consider St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, or the hospice or charity of your choice.
Visitation with the family will be Monday, December 11th from 3 to 6 PM at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow at 6 PM in the Chapel. There will be a private family burial on Tuesday, December 12th.
