In June 1951, a young lady from a big city married a boy from the hills of East Tennessee. He went off to serve his country and she came to Murfreesboro to Middle Tennessee State. At the end of his enlistment, he also came to Middle Tennessee State. After graduation they decided to stay in Murfreesboro. He found a position in Murfreesboro, and she settled down as a homemaker. She was one of the few during that period that did not seek a job outside the home. She was an excellent homemaker and a wonderful mother to her three children. Her daughters agree, “no one in the world ever had better parents than they.” She was a wonderful seamstress, she sewed stylish and appropriate outfits for herself, the children’s outfits were attractive and unusual, and she even tailored jackets for her husband.

She was a good neighbor, loved, and appreciated by all who knew her. She took part in many civil activities. As the children progressed in school, they could always depend on her support in all their school programs. When her parents and aunt were in failing health, she helped them in sickness, never complaining but always happy in meeting their needs. They always visited their children who lived out of town, not only for their own pleasure but in order to help them with their needs.

As a young mother, she taught in the primary department of Sunday School for many, many years. Adult teachers welcomed her to their classes because she made such wonderful contributions. She was not only well versed in the Bible but was a great student of world affairs. The Church members who were there in the late 1950’s and ‘60’s remember how faithfully they attended church sitting near the front with their well-behaved children. She took part in many programs of the Church, including the Women of the Church. She held many offices and fulfilled her duties well. She was always smiling and happy and loved to greet everyone. But if you really wanted to see her get excited just start asking about any of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
