Obituary of Mary Jane Watson Byford

Mary Jane Watson Byford, age 91 of Murfreesboro, TN went to her heavenly home on Thursday, July 7, 2022. Born in Rutherford County on August 23, 1930, to the late Rufus and Sara Adelle Smotherman Watson. Also preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Clifford Byford, great grandson, Nolan Venable, and brother, Robert Hall Watson. She was a member of First United Methodist and attended Farris Chapel. Mary graduated with the class of 1948 from Central High School. She retired as a secretary from Central Middle School after 24 years. She was also the last surviving life long member of the Barfield Girls Bridge Group. She is survived by her children, Steve (Linda) Byford, Joanne Byford Venable (Steve), William (Jill) Byford; grandchildren, Wade Byford, Greg (Tessa) Venable, Grace (Steven) James, Boston Byford, Carley Byford, Carson Byford; great grandchildren, Caleb Venable, Kennedy Venable, Claira James, and Evelyn James. Visitation with the family will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on Monday, July 11, 2022, from 9am – 11am. Graveside services will follow at 11:30am at Yeargan Cemetery, Yeargan Road, Murfreesboro. TN. with Rev. Michael O'Bannon officiating. The family would like to acknowledge with deep appreciation the friendship of Mrs. Vivan Faye Miller, her roommate for the past several years. The family would also like to recognize and whole heartedly thank the staff at NHC and 1 East for the endless and tender care that was given to Mary Jane Byford during her residency. Pallbearers will be Steve Byford, William Byford, Steve Venable, Boston Byford, Wade Byford, and Greg Venable. Honorary Pallbearers are Carson Byford, Steven James, and Caleb Venable.
