Obituary of Richard Robinson

Richard Andrew Robinson, born in 1922, the first of fourteen children to Sherman and Carrie Mae Helton Robinson, passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at the age of 89. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, April 14, 2012 from 11:00 am until the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Bro. Joe Woodside will be officiating and burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and friends. Richard was a lifelong resident of Rutherford County, living most of his life in the Barfield Community. He was a United States Army veteran serving during World War 2 receiving the Purple Heart and other medals for his bravery. In 1949 Richard met and married his wife of 61 years, Mattie Bell Smotherman. Together they raised five children who survives him, Patricia (Willie) Clark, Gertie Harris, Roy (Elsie) Robinson, Paul Andy Robinson and Carrie (Jesse) Rogers. Also survived by grandchildren, Greg Clark, Brian Rogers, Shane Anderson, Deena Arnold, Tracy Lynn Herrod, Wendy Robinson, Kelly Adams, Rick and Christopher Robinson; twelve great grandchildren; brothers, Sherman and Tommy Robinson; sisters, Martha Fox, Nancy Stem, Francis Raymond and Ellen Albro and many loving nieces, nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Mattie; seven siblings, Sam, Jonus, Lee and John Robinson, Pearl Ghee, Louise Sogge and Mary Lokey. Richard was a very devoted and active member of the Church of Christ, first at the Church of Christ at Windrow and later as the Sunday School teacher and song leader at Deason Church of Christ. Farming in his early years, he retired as a technician with Sears and also worked at the Murfreesboro Ready Mix. He loved meeting people and continued repairing washers, dryers, and mowers into his eightys. He always believed that he was a "lucky/blessed" ole man and that he should give and help others as much as possible. Everyone that met him liked him and remembers his good nature and smile. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to TN Alzheimers Association.
