Obituary of Bennie Dewey "Pete" Harrell III

Bell Buckle resident, Bennie D. “Pete” Harrell, III passed away on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Centennial Hospital in Nashville. Pete was 78 years old and born on September 9, 1943 to Ruth B. Harrell and Bennie D. Harrell, Jr. in Blytheville, Arkansas. A former resident of Jackson and Clinton, Mississippi, he was a retired heavy equipment parts and sales manager and worked part-time in Tennessee with Neptune Holdings as a merchandiser. Pete loved working and meeting new people in the stores he serviced. Pete served his country in the US Army Reserves for 8 years. He attended Central High School in Jackson, Mississippi and Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi , before starting his career in heavy equipment at Mississippi Road Supply. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Ruth Harrell and his son, Bennie D. “Ben” Harrell IV. Pete was married to the former Kay Parish for 56 years. They had two children, Ben who passed away in 2011 and daughter Karen Flanary and her husband Jeff of Rock Island, TN and daughter-in-law, Penny Harrell (Jim Maxwell) of Baxter, TN. He is also survived by a sister, Judy Colburn and husband Dewayne of Brandon, Mississippi. Pete loved anything his grandchildren were involved in and any sports they played, he wanted to be there rain or shine. His grandchildren include, Shelby Gibson, Sydney Gibson, Bennie D. (Bo) Harrell, V, Gabriella K. (Ella) Harrell and step-grands, Marissa Vazquez, Catherine Flanary and Jenny Flanary. He is also survived by nephews, Jeff and Jim Jones , and a niece, Tammy Hollingsworth and great nephews, Lake, Jackson, Cole and Jordan Jones. A faithful member since they moved in 2005, memorials may be made in his honor to Blankenship United Methodist Church, 3602 Midland Rd., Shelbyville, TN 39160. Visitation with the family will be 10:00-11:00 am Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Blankinship United Methodist Church, 3602 Midland Rd, Shelbyville, TN 37160. Funeral service to follow at 11:00 am.
