Rita Gaye Hopkins, 73, of Murfreesboro, passed away April 01, 2012 at her home. She was born in Las Vegas, NM. She and her husband Tommy owned and operated Modesto Horse Auction in Modesto, CA until his death. Rita continued the business herself until she left California to live with her sister in Texas. From there she moved to Joliet, IL to live with her daughter until she made her final home here in Murfreesboro. She was a very devote Christian and loved the outdoors and her family. Mrs. Hopkins was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Evelyn Crowson, husband, Tommy Thompson. She is survived by her children, Luana Thompson of Killeen, TX; Tommy (Hannah) Thompson of Highlands, TX; Patty Chapin of Killeen, TX; Jim (Michelle) Thompson of Murfreesboro; 5 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Ruby (Dobey) Thompson of Dexter, NM; Teresa (Allen) McDaniel of Crosby, TX; and brother, Willie (Roxanne) Crowson of Palmdale, CA The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 04, 2012 from 12:00pm until the funeral service at 2:00pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Rumburg officiating. Burial to follow at Miller Cemetery.
