John Edward Herman, age 73 of Christiana, TN passed away at home on July 6, 2021, around his loving family. John was born on July 21, 1947, in DeKalb County to the late John B. and Daisy Herman. He is also preceded in death by his sister and brother in law; Frances and Paul Turner, brother and sister in law; Bobby and Billie Herman, brother; Kenneth Herman, infant sister; Carol Ann Herman, niece; Julie Herman, brother in law; Jerry Reeder, sister in law and brother in law; Elaine and Robert Seyl, sister in law and brother in law; Clara and Johnny Eakes, brothers in law; Gerald Davenport, Joe Chrisman, Henry Perry, Lewis Duke, and sister in law; Martha Smotherman. He was survived by his wife Rebecca Herman of Christiana, TN., children; Jeff Herman of Christiana, TN., Tommy Herman and Rennita Floyd of Manchester, TN., John Lewis (Laura) Herman of McMinnville, TN., Anita Martin of Smithville, TN., George and Rebekah Jones Christiana, TN., David L. and Sydney Jones of Christiana, TN., grandchildren; Jesse & Kourtney Herman, Braden Herman, Raylan Herman, Olivia Rice, Layla Floyd, Amanda Martin, Austin Martin. Isiah Jones, Clayton Jones, Cole Miller, Abby Miller, Parker Shirley, Jackson Jones, and Karter May Jones, great grandchildren; Isabella Caldwell and Henry Herman; several nieces and nephews, brother; Jack (Brenda) Herman of Cookeville, TN., sister; Kathy (Terry) Coppinger of Seabring, FL., special nephew; John Luther and Terry Turner of McMinnville, TN., sisters in law; Sue Duke of Murfreesboro, TN., Margaret Davenport of Woodbury, TN., Rita Chrisman of Bell Buckle, TN., Stella Perry of Murfreesboro, TN., brother in law; Bud Smotherman of West Warwick, RI., brothers in law and sisters in law; Kyle and Debbie Smotherman of Christiana, TN., Steve and Diana Smotherman of Christiana, TN., Cooney and Shelia Smotherman of Christiana, TN., Billy and Shawan Smotherman of Murfreesboro, TN., and Larry Smotherman of Christiana, TN. John was a retired truck driver and nursery man. Anyone that knew him knows he was quick witted, never met a stranger and loved to make people laugh. He had a joke or story for any situation. He enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and raising his animals. He was a loving husband, father, and brother. Out of all his roles that he had in life the one he loved the most was grandpa. He loved to watch his grandchildren fish, laugh, and play. Visitation with the family will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on Friday, July 9, 2021, from 5pm – 8pm and Saturday, July 10, 2021 from 10am – 12pm with the service to follow at 12pm. Interment will be at Whitworth Cemetery with Lee-Allen Turner officiating. Murfreesboro Funeral Home is honored to serve the Herman family.
