Obituary of Michael Scott Reed
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
After a long and hard-fought battle with ALS, Michael Scott Reed went home with the Lord on Wednesday, May 5th, 2021.
Scott was born on August 31,1969. He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Gannon Reed.
He is survived by his wife, Shannon Reed, his daughters; Emilie, Whitney (Ethan) Castleberry, Brooke (Lance) Stover, his Grandchildren; Kinley and Grayson Stover, his father, Donnie Reed, Mother and Father in-law, Thurman (Lois) Short, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins, and a very dear and special friend, Lee Young.
Scott worked for the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department from 1998 – 2014, at which time he had to take a medical retirement.
During his tenure with the Sheriff’s office, he became a School Resource Officer. He absolutely loved being an SRO, working with and teaching the kids in the schools so much that he started a new program for the kids, the NASP Archery Program. This program was not available in any schools in Rutherford Co, when he started it and it immediately became a huge success, and is still going strong today as it has spread throughout TN. He had archers that went all the way to the NASP world series. He took great pride in this program and the success that it became.
After retirement, he enjoyed wood working and various other small projects. He found a new project that became very dear to his heart, A Soldiers Child, which he volunteered with as his health allowed.
