Obituary of Joyce Inez Leonard

Joyce Inez Upchurch Leonard, 79, of Murfreesboro, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Jan. 7, 2021. Born in the Sugar Creek Community of Jackson County, Tenn., she was the daughter of Charlie and Ruby Scantland Upchurch. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd James "Nehi" Leonard and 9 brothers and sisters. Mrs. Leonard loved gardening and working with her many flowers and plants. Her children were her pride and joy. She loved each one of them dearly and said they were all so beautiful and talented. She often reminisced about her children when they were young, and some of her fondest memories were teaching them to count and learn their ABCs, recite nursery rhymes, how to ride a tricycle, tie their shoes, and play games. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed making meals for her family and friends. Mrs. Leonard is survived by a daughter, Debbie Goodwin and her husband Dan; four sons -- Randy Leonard and his wife Claire, Ricky Leonard and his wife Chrissy, Mark Leonard and his wife Jeanne, and Gary Leonard and his wife Sonya; 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Visitation with the family will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2021 at Murfreesboro Funeral Home, with funeral services scheduled at 1:00 p.m. Monday. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro. Mrs. Leonard was a member of East Main Church of Christ. Grandsons will be pallbearers.
