Obituary of Verlin Dean Thornton

Verlin D. Thornton, 77, of Murfreesboro, TN went to his heavenly reward Wednesday, December 23, 2020. Verlin was born December 7, 1943 to Boyd and Sarah Thornton in Kansas City, MO Verlin was a talented singer earning his bachelor of arts in music education from Lee University, Cleveland,Tn. He was an ordained Bishop with the Church of God of Prophecy. He pastored in Phoenix, AZ, Columbus, GA, Sodus, MI, Belle Glade, FL, and Murfreesboro, TN. He worked as International Minister of Music and International Evangelism Director for the Church of God of Prophecy. He sponsored and supervised evangelistic teams to Kenya, Africa where he visited many times. Pastor Verlin’s travels took him to twenty-nine countries and all but two states—Vermont and Rhode Island. For the last ten years he served as Prayer Team leader, and in the past few years, as Coordinator for Adams Place Nursing Home Ministry, along with his wife, Jean at Family Worship Center. He also enjoyed singing in the Family Worship Center Praise Team and choir. Verlin is survived by his wife, Jean Thornton, Murfreesboro, TN; daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Trump (Jim), Soddy Daisey, TN; Step-daughter, Mechelle Perry (Shane), Ormond Beach, FL; Step-son, Jerry Ingram, Murfreesboro, TN; Grandsons Staff Sgt. James Trump, III, Derek Trump, Christopher Trump, and Joshua Galvez; Sisters Elaine Linkous (Gary), Wilmington, IL; Anita Leader (John), Charlotte, NC. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Verlin is preceded in death by his parents Boyd and Sarah Thornton and brother Richard Thornton.
