Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Doyle "Poppy" Brown, age 82 passed away, Wednesday, July 29, 2020. Visitation will be held Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Southeast Baptist Church from 12:00 until 3:00 pm. Funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm. Dinner will follow service. Food donations may be given to the church for Saturday. Doyle Brown was preceded in death by his mother, Nonie May Hale; his father, Herman Ashford Brown; brother, Don Brown; sister, Billie Frances Young; and son, Patrick Doyle Brown. He is survived by his wife, Mary Faye Brown; daughter, Theresa Ann Daugherty; granddaughters, Megan Ann Hicks and Erika Ann Griffeth; sister, Hermine “Hubby” Brown Saul; nieces and nephews, Alan Brown, Belinda Crabtree, Billy Ray Young, Regina Key, Tammie Hampton, and Tracy Saul; and other family and friends. Doyle served in the U.S. Army for two years and loved to share his stories of working on the airplanes and living in Elizabethtown with his wife where he was stationed. After he was discharged, Doyle and Faye, his wife, moved back to Murfreesboro, where he worked at Singer in inventory control, and then he moved on to work in management at AVCO Aerostructures. In his spare time, he loved to fish, hunt and watch NASCAR, attend races, watch westerns, read and spend time with his family and friends. Doyle loved to take his children and grandchildren on trips to the lake, Chattanooga, Pigeon Forge and many other places. He enjoyed watching them play in band, sports, color guard and any school event. They could count on him to be on the sidelines cheering them on. Doyle also invested his time and energy into his church, Southeast Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the church and served as a Deacon for 58 years. He loved to help with church events whether that was being in charge of the snacks for Vacation Bible School, counting the guests at the front tent for Bethlehem Marketplace, assisting with weddings held at the church, etc. Doyle knew how to put a smile on someone’s face, and he was the biggest jokester in the room. He had never met a stranger. He knew how to make anyone feel welcome and loved. He was so loved and will be truly missed. Donations to the Brown family in lieu of flowers or memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Baptist Church, 708 Minerva Drive, Murfreesboro, TN.
