John Price Badgett, 87, of Murfreesboro left this earth Thursday, January 26, 2012. He was born, October 23, 1924, and raised on the family farm in Vervilla, TN as the middle child and only son of Allen W. and Carrie L. Badgett. As a young man, John worked in construction, as a welder and as a truck driver from Atlanta to Michigan, as well as, volunteered for the National Guard. At the age of 35, he met and married the love of his life, Jean Travis. They moved to McMinnville, TN with their two daughters, Angela and Kimberley. Over the years, John worked in LaVergne, TN at Cope Truck Body and Trailer, Waco Trucks in Lebanon, TN and finally retiring at the age of 73 from Rogers Manufacturing in Nashville, TN. All through the years, John loved to travel with his family. Never one to sit still, he wanted to be on the road to see new sights or just visit Gatlinburg to relax. John and Jean bought their final home in Murfreesboro and have resided there for the last 33 years. In retirement, John enjoyed woodworking, watching his grandchildren grow, and spending time with his wife and dogs. He lived his life on his terms and with a great deal of love and admiration from his family and friends. John is preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Virginia Badgett. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Billie Jean Badgett; daughters, Angela (Roger) Haywood; Kimberley (John O'Neal) Badgett; grandchildren, Amanda (Josh) Hill; Wesley Haywood; Reese Haywood and Abagail (Donnie) Gibbs; and great grandchildren, Alaina Hill; Greyson Hill; and Alexi Gibbs; all of the Murfreesboro area; and one sister, Agnes Jacobs of McMinnville. Visitation with the family will be Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 4:00pm-8:00pm at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Monday, January 30, 2012 at 1:00pm at Bascom Cemetery in Warren County, TN.
