Obituary of Nelda Faye Spradling

Nelda (Nell) Faye Baucum Spradling, 79, of Murfreesboro, TN went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 7, 2020 after complications from surgery. Nelda (Nell) is survived by her husband of 62 years, Howard Spradling, her daughter Judy Clarke, her adored fur baby Precious, her extended family at Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department and many friends she made at New Vision Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her father Kirven Baucum and her mother Jessie Faye McGuire Baucum. Nelda (Nell) moved to Murfreesboro in June 2005 when Judy transferred with her job at State Farm. In order to move, she retired from the U.S. Postal Service where she worked for 25 years as a rural letter carrier. Nelda loved to work so after taking a two year break she went on a job hunt and was hired by Murfreesboro Fire Rescue. She loved every job she ever had, but this was her favorite because everyone there is just like family. She knew the names of all 230+ Firefighters and loved and prayed for them every day. After moving to Murfreesboro, the family visited churches in the area looking for a new home. It was love at first visit with New Vision Baptist Church where she worked and served the Lord and met and made some of the most amazing friends. Nelda loved everyone on staff and felt that they were truly God led. She was a bold witness for God and wanted everyone she loved to celebrate in heaven with her one day. Nelda was a strong, amazing woman that was loved by everyone that came into contact with her. Howard and Judy would like to thank all of their close friends from church, State Farm and Nelda's much loved Fire Department family that so faithfully visited and provided love and strength to them as they navigated this difficult time. Special thank you to Margaret Ison and Mary Hoenigmann for the loving care they both provided to Nelda. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the City of Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department or to Saint Jude's Hospital.
