James Steven Thornton of Smyrna, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on May 1, 2018. He was preceded in death by his father, John Thornton and a granddaughter, Mckayla Gagovski. He is survived by his wife of 32 years Beverly Thornton, children: Jackie Gagovski, James Thornton II, and Karen Holt, grandchildren: Shantee Thornton, Britany Mallory, Courtney Baird, Kelsey Thornton, James Thornton III, Alissa Holt, brothers: John Thornton, William Thornton, sisters: Kathy Clough, Sharon Murphy and mother: Phyllis Thornton.

James served his country with the Army and Special Forces which he carried with him throughout life showing how he brought his dedication and great character back with him and passed down through his family. He was the sweetest and most loving man that could have ever been. He was a such a joker. He would say things to make you laugh every time you talked with him. He had nicknames for every one of his kids and grandkids. He even had a nickname for his soon to be first great granddaughter. He loved everyone he knew and had the heart of GOLD. He was the kind of man that would listen to your problems, give advice to anyone that needed it and would never judge you for anything. He was loved by everyone and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.
