James “Slick” William Messick of Fosterville, TN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the age of 81. He was born in Christiana, TN and was a lifetime native of Rutherford County. He was a retired auto mechanic and a lifelong farmer, and he was a member of the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Jimmie D. Messick and Betty Mae Brothers Messick and his brother Phillip Messick. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jean Messick; sons, Rick (Marie) Messick, Jeff Messick, and Mike (Sheila) Messick; grandchildren, Logan (Brittany) Messick, Lauren Messick, Daniel (Rachel) Messick, Drew Williams, Elyse Messick, Zach Cannon, Meghan Messick, Madison Messick, and Jake Messick; brother Harold (Peggy) Messick, and five great grandchildren. Carter Woodruff and Ed Jackson are officiating the funeral at The Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be friends and family. Visitation will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home from 4-8 pm on Friday April 7, 2017 with service Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 1 pm.. Interment will be at Woodfin Cemetery.
