Please share a memory of L. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
L. Gordon (Lewis W. Gordon), beloved husband and "Papa", passed into the Lord's hands, September 6, 2011 in Murfreesboro, TN. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, September 18, 2011 at Stanford Chapel, First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Rd, Nashville, TN. Lew was 80 years young and was born in Parsons, Kansas on July 8th, 1931. He was a Veteran and served with the U.S. Air Force as a meteorologist. After leaving the Service, he began training for his lifelong pursuit as a professional artist. His passion for art led him along many career paths that cultivated his expertise, including graphic arts, advertising, entrepreneurship and teaching. In 1987, his work was selected by Somerset Fine Art Publishing where he is featured as one of their showcase artists. Lew became one of the premier impressionist artists in the U.S. and his original works continue to be available at Southwest Gallery in Dallas, TX. Lew married his wife, Jill in 1984 and together, they travelled Europe and the U.S. gathering subject material that featured prominently in Lew's art. They moved to Nashville from Dallas in 1990 where they found a home in our local art community. He was a member of the Tennessee Art League and enjoyed teaching and sharing his expertise here in Nashville. In addition to his commercial success, he contributed works to such charities as Save the Children and the National Parkinson's Foundation. He was a true Renaissance man who, in addition to art, loved flying, writing, music, travel and a fast car. Most of all, he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had an unquenchable zest for life and drive that inspired all he touched. Lew was a constant source of love, humor, wisdom and "Lew-isms" to us all and we will certainly miss his warm presence each day. Lew is survived by his wife, Jill, her three children and their spouses, Mitchell Campbell and Jenni of Nashville, TN, Mark Campbell and Kim of Chattanooga, TN and Jamie Oquin and Terry of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew Campbell and Hannah of Chattanooga, TN, Chelsea Mautz and Matthew of Atlanta, GA, Matt Campbell and Melissa of Nashville, TN and John Campbell of Oxford, MS. Lew was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Lewis Campbell and Peter Campbell. Many earthly angels have assisted Lew and the family over the past months. We would especially like to thank Patrice Campbell as well as the doctors, nurses and staff of the TN Veterans Home in Murfreesboro, who gave their love and tender care to Lew. Memorials may be made to the National Parkinson's Foundation or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
