Obituary of Linda Fern Childress Stern

Linda Stern, age 73 years, In the early morning hours of November 19, Linda Childress Stern went to heaven. Since March of 2013, she has struggled to overcome the effects of a massive stroke and related seizures and infections. During that time, she never cursed God, never questioned "Why Me?!", never stopped seeking God's glory. Blessed be the name of the Lord!
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Thursday, December 1, at the Northside Baptist Church, Murfreesboro, Tennessee. From noon to 2pm, family members will be available to greet attendees. Several months later, Miss Linda will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery after a chapel service. Those wishing to make a monetary memorial are encouraged to make a donation to their local Salvation Army church.
While here on earth, Miss Linda was an active member of the DAR serving in several offices of the Fort Loudoun Chapter (Winchester, Virginia). For the four years she lived on Murfreesboro, she was an active member of William Lytle chapter. In Winchester, She was a leading force in the development of effective senior citizen programs for Frederick County, Virginia. For example, she conceived and developed the Senior Luncheon for the annual renowned Apple Blossom Festival. As the Social Services Director for Winchester's Salvation Army Shelter, she devoted herself to assisting the needy as they strove to become contributing members of society.
Linda Childress graduated from Garden High School, Buchannan County, Virginia in 1962. In 1984, she graduated Cum Laude from George Mason University with a BA in Sociology and an emphasis on Gerontology.
She is survived by her husband George Stern of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; son Ronald Stern of Richmond, Virginia; daughter Gretchen Burch of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter Heidi Stucky of Dickson, Tennessee; and, nine grandchildren: Ronald Stern Jr., Noah Stern, Autumn Stern, Annabelle Stucky, George Stucky, Hannah Burch, Nolan Stucky, Jacob Burch and Trevallion Stucky.
