Obituary of Maria Guadalupe Hickman

Maria Guadalupe “Lupe” Hickman of Murfreesboro, Tennessee passed away from congestive heart failure at her home on Friday October 21, 2016. She was in the care and company of immediate family at the time of her passing. Maria was 75 years old. Maria was born April 23, 1941 in Alice, Texas to Ignacio and Maria Villanueva. She was one of 16 children, and one of 3 daughters, in the Villanueva family. She grew up in and around Houston, Texas and eventually made her way to El Paso, Texas, where she met and married her husband, Frank Hickman, in 1963. Maria and her family then moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico where she and Frank raised their 3 children. Carlsbad was her home until June 2013, when she moved to Murfreesboro for the remainder of her life. Maria is survived by her son Edward and his wife Julie of Hollywood, Maryland, son Bill of Denver, Colorado, daughter Melissa and her husband Albert of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and brother Oscar and his wife Linda of Clio, South Carolina. She is also survived by her grandson Ryan of Greensboro, North Carolina, grandson Brandon and his wife Lois of Carlsbad, New Mexico, grandson Kyle of Fruita, Colorado, granddaughter Darcy and her husband Eric of Honolulu, Hawaii, and grandson Wyatt of Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Maria is also survived by great-granddaughters BrookLynn, Layla and Rowan of Carlsbad, New Mexico. In keeping with her request, formal funeral services will not be held, and Maria’s remains will be cremated and retained by her family. A memorial service may be scheduled at some time in the future. Maria’s children would like to thank all of her family and friends for keeping her in their hearts and prayers. They also thank the exceptional doctors, nurses and staff at Vanderbilt University Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.
