Obituary of Raymond Outland

Raymond L. "Ray" Outland, 88, of Murfreesboro (formerly of Murray, Kentucky) passed from his life on earth into the presence of Jesus on Monday, June 25, 2007. Mr. Outland was the co-owner of the Outland Bank Vault Service. His partner was his wife of 45 years, who preceded him in death, Jane Parks Outland. He was a member of Third Baptist Church, 47 years, where he was also an ordained deacon, member of the adult choir and participated in many activities and served on numerous committees as long as his health allowed. He enjoyed singing and listening to southern gospel music and was a master mason. He was proud to serve our country during World War II in the United States Army. He was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and brother and was dearly loved by his family. He will be entombed in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum following a celebration gathering on Wednesday, June 27, at 2:00 pm at the Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Dr. F. Murray Mathis and Rev. Steve Hutson officiating. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, June 26 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Mr. Outland is survived by his wife of 23 years, Doris Ann Outland; one son, Dan (Carolyn) Outland, Murfreesboro; four daughters, Carylon (Bruce) Hickerson, Murfreesboro; Sylvia (C.W.) Patterson, Atlanta, GA, Cindy (Larry) Phillips, Cordova, TN, Joni (Ronnie) Elrod, Nashville, TN; one step-daughter, Crystal (David) Rosenberg, Acworth, GA; one sister, Martha Jones, Murray, KY; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. Serving as pallbearers will be his six grandsons; Jeff Outland, Kent Smith, Beau Patterson, Ben Phillips, Tim Elrod and Scott Elrod.
