Nancy Estelle Yarbrough, age 86, of Murfreesboro, TN, died Friday August 21, 2026. Murfreesboro Funeral Home will host a visitation with the family on August 24, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, with the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Following the memorial service, there will be a graveside service at Simpson Cemetery in Rover, TN. There will be a post graveside service lunch for the family at Rover Baptist Church. Nancy is survived by her son David (Tracy) Yarbrough and granddaughters Maeve and Mairin Yarbrough.

Nancy was born June 25, 1940, to Asa and Mary Maxwell in Unionville, TN. She grew up there and was a 1957 graduate of Community High School. She and her parents were mainstays of Longview Baptist Church and those years were the formation of a faith that lasted throughout her life.

Nancy began her career at Empire Pencil Company after graduating from high school. She worked in the accounting department for forty-four years, surviving several mergers and name changes. She also proudly served on the board of directors for Heritage South Credit Union (then EPCO) for several years and was on the audit committee during that time. She also worked there part time in retirement, mainly because she loved the people so much.

She married Jim Yarbrough in 1970, and they had one son, David, who she taxied to countless sports practices and games even though it meant going back to work after dropping him off to finish her day. Nancy lived for her family and loved every moment spent with them, particularly with her granddaughters.

Nancy was a fifty plus year member of Edgemont Baptist Church in Shelbyville and was the pianist there for several decades. Edgemont was where she practiced her faith and the center of her social circle. She was there every Sunday morning, Sunday evening, and Wednesday evening for services, classes, meetings, potlucks, or any other good reason to gather together people of faith.

In lieu of flowers or donations, it is the family’s wish for friends to honor Nancy’s kindness and compassion for others by doing something kind for someone they encounter over the next few days. Something that is not expected or necessary. Then smile and think of Nancy.
