Emmett Carl “Mac” McAdams, age 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 5, 1935, in Birmingham, Alabama, Mac was the son of Melvin Carl McAdams and Marguerite Emerald Dean McAdams. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Polly McAdams Richardson.

Mac leaves behind his devoted wife of 63 years, Betty McKinney McAdams. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and friendship. He is also survived by his sons, Mark (Suzanne) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Michael (Stephanie) of Rockvale, Tennessee. His grandchildren, Andrew and Lydia McAdams of Birmingham, and Meredith, Madelyn, and Mia McAdams of Rockvale, were a source of happiness and pride throughout his life. He was also survived by a niece, Debbie Mayer, and many dear friends and extended family members.

Mac proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1957. He continued his education at Florida College, graduating in 1959, and later earned his BS in Economics from Middle Tennessee State University in 1962. Mac enjoyed a successful 36-year career with State Farm Insurance Company, where he was respected for his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic. Even in retirement, he stayed active and enjoyed driving cars for local dealerships.

Mac was a faithful member and deacon of the Cason Lane church of Christ.

A loyal supporter of the University of Alabama, Mac rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the Crimson Tide. Some of his happiest memories were made traveling to football games with family and dear friends including Bill Sowder, sharing laughter, stories, and a lifelong love of Alabama football.

Mac will be remembered for his steady presence, his devotion to family and his quiet strength. His legacy lives on in the lives of those who knew and loved him, and he will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on Thursday, August 20, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow on Friday, August 21, at 2:00 p.m., with a visitation hour preceding the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.
