John Michael Hall Obituary

John Michael Hall, 72, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at his home on the morning of Saturday, July 11, 2026, with his son at his side, following a battle with leukemia. He was known as Mike to nearly everyone, and as Omar to his friends at work.

He was born September 18, 1953, at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, to Johnny Mack and Mary Nell Hall. He moved to Gadsden, Alabama, as a young boy, and it was there that he spent his entire young adulthood.

Mike spent his career in the tire industry. He worked for several years at the Goodyear plant in Gadsden before moving to Tennessee to help start up the new Bridgestone plant in Warren County, where he worked until his retirement. It was there that he met many of the friends who stayed with him for the rest of his life.

Mike was rarely still. He fished and boated the Coosa River in Gadsden, played softball, and rode motorcycles. He owned nine of them over the years, with a loud preference for the Goldwings. He loved to ride through the Smoky Mountains, and one of his fondest memories was riding a Goldwing all the way to Oklahoma to play in a softball championship. He built RC boats by hand as a young man and picked the hobby back up again in his final years.

It was in Tennessee that he found the love of his life. He married Gina in 1994, and he took her daughter, Mackenzie, as his own and loved her dearly. In 1996 he and Gina had their son, Jonathan. Gina passed away in March of 2015 after her long fight with scleroderma.

Above all, Mike gave himself to his family. He was at the school events, the practices, and helped with the homework. As Gina's illness progressed, he took on more and more without complaint, caring for her through every year of it while making sure his children had what they needed and the time they needed. He did it all gracefully, and he did it gladly.

Mike will be remembered for his gracious and helpful spirit, his loving relationship with God, and the joy he carried with him, a joy that had a way of brightening any room he walked into.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnny Mack and Mary Nell Hall, and his sister, Charlotte Davis.

He is survived by his son, Jonathan Hall; his stepdaughter and step-son-in-law, Mackenzie and Corbin Scharnhorst; his brothers, David Hall (Trudy) and Bryan Hall (Taryn); his sister, Charlene Whitefield (Gary); and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 205 Easy St., La Vergne, Tennessee, with a service to follow at 2:00 PM, officiated by Pastor Thomas Agnew.
