John Alvin "Lefty" Barnett Obituary

John Alvin "Lefty" Barnett Obituary

John “Lefty” Alvin Barnett, 77, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, entered into the

presence of his Lord and Savior on July 9th, 2026.

Born April 29, 1949, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Lefty was the only son of Voyd

and Nancy Barnett. Known to family and friends simply as “Lefty,” he was a

devoted husband to his beloved wife, Nancy, a loving father to his sons Aaron

and Andrew, a cherished father-in-law to Meredith, and a proud grandfather to

Palmer, who brought him immeasurable joy.

After graduating in 1971 from Tennessee Tech University, Lefty dedicated more

than 40 years of his life to Provident Life Insurance Company. He built a

reputation for honesty, hard work, and treating people with genuine kindness

and respect.

Above all else, Lefty loved Jesus. His faith was the foundation of his life and

guided the way he loved his family and served others. He also had a deep love

for golf and treasured the friendships and memories made on the course.

There simply wasn’t anyone quite like Lefty. His sense of humor, eclectic style,

kind heart, steady presence, and unwavering faith made him truly one of a kind.

He had a way of making people feel welcome, leaving every life he touched a

little better than he found it. Though his earthy journey has ended, Lefty’s legacy

of faith, love, laughter, and integrity will live on in the hearts of all that knew him.

While his family and friends will miss him deeply, they rejoice in knowing he is

whole again and at home with the Savior he faithfully loved. As scripture reminds

us, “Well done, good and faithful servant….enter into the joy of your master.” -

Matthew 25:23.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Lefty’s life at Murfreesboro Funeral

Home on Friday, July 17th. Visitation will be from 11am - 1pm with a service

immediately following. A private family graveside burial will follow on Saturday,

July 18th at Hillsboro Methodist Church cemetery in Hillsboro, Tennessee..

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lefty’s memory to the Campbell

Martin Scholarship Fund on the Sneds Tour. It provides financial assistance to

junior golfers who otherwise would not have the resources to compete on the

tour.
