Johnny Merrill Goode passed away peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026 at the age of 79 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee surrounded by wife and loved ones.

Born on February 15, 1947 in East Texas , John was the child of Mary and Johnson Goode. He attended and graduated from Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky majoring in business. He met the love of his life, Marsha, during their college days. He spent his professional life working as an auditor for Texas Eastern, Pyrofax Gas, and Fernald.

Beyond his professional achievements, John’s true devotion was to his faith, his country, and his family. He had a passion for gardening, tinkering with projects, and spending time with his grandchildren. Blessed with a gifted pair of hands, John could fix just about anything. A constant, supportive presence, he never missed a ballgame, a birthday party, or a family game night. He will be remembered most for his kind spirit, his deep commitment to his church, and his legendary love for carrot cake.

He is survived by his wife Marsha , his soulmate and best friend of 56.5 years.His son John Eric and wife Julie and son Stephen and wife Katie Jane, and four grandchildren, Anna, Eric, Paisley, and Griffin.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to their wonderful church family at Franklin Road Baptist Church, as well as their dear friend, John Young, both of whom have been steady pillars of strength and comfort throughout this difficult time.

A graveside service to celebrate John’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 1 at 10 am at Evergreen Cemetery in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Every Nation Ministries to support John’s niece and nephew, Jarrett and Nicole Suniula, who are missionaries currently serving in Samoa.
