Obituary of Walter Christopher Smith

Please share a memory of Walter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Walter C. (Walt) Smith, age 60, of Rockvale, passed away on May 25th after battling cancer for several years. He was an electrician and one of the owners of Smith Lighting, an electrical contracting business that he operated with his two brothers. He was also a part-time farmer when he was still in good health. He was the son of William C. (“Hooty”) Smith, Jr. and Waudene Leathers Smith. He was preceded in death by his father, “Hooty” Smith, and his grandparents, Walter Lee Leathers, Minnie Odell Hendrix Leathers, William C. (Bill) Smith, Sr. and Thelma (Annie) Miller Smith. He is survived by his wife of over 35 years, Annette (Plichta) Smith and his sons, Nolan Smith and Tate Smith. He is also survived by his mother, as well as his brothers Jim (Valerie) Smith and David (Cindy) Smith, nephews Sean Plichta, Cooper Smith and Cole Smith, and niece, Edie Smith. Walt was most proud of his sons, Nolan and Tate, and he especially enjoyed watching them participate in clay target shooting events. He was also proud of the electrical business that he started over 30 years ago, and he valued the many friendships and relationships formed along the way. He took pride in knowing that everything he acquired in life came from years of hard work. Those who knew Walt would describe him as a hard-working, honest, kind, loyal and decent man. When he was not working, he took many trips to his two favorite places, Disney World and Pensacola Beach. A visitation with the family will be held at Murfreesboro Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 28th from 4-8 pm. There will be no formal service at this time. The family would like to express sincere gratitude and appreciation to Vicky Smith for all of the time she spent helping to take care of Walt during the past year. The family would also like to thank the many associates at Pinnacle Bank for the love and support shown to them during Walt’s illness. Finally, thank you to team Harpeth Crush, especially the Berry, White and Yarbrough families for “adopting” Tate during shooting season. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Walt’s name to HSSSF (Harpeth Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation). Please note “Harpeth Crush” in the memo line. Donations can be mailed to: Coach Justin White, 6345 Arno Road, Franklin TN 37064
