Obituary of Mildred Markum

Mildred Markum. Age 82 of Shelbyville, passed away at her home, Monday, October 11, 2021. A native of Rutherford Co., she formerly lived in Murfreesboro, TN. She is survived by her children, Melody (Matt) Mullaney of Shelbyville and Tyler (Dawn) Markum of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Hunter (MaKayla) Faulk, Shelby-Mai (Austin) Markum Tipton, Seth (Alex) Markum, Haylee Faulk, Brianna (Jeremy) Jones, McKenzie (Austin) McDaniel, Sean Mullaney; great grandchildren, Layton Faulk, Madilynn Tipton, Heartlee and Maddox Jones, Maesyn and Mia McDaniel and very special sisters Deedie Drake and Elaine Porterfield. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and special cousins. Preceded in death by husband of 58 years James “Jim” Harvey Markum; parents, T.S. and Minnie Arnold Drake; siblings, Garfield Drake, Harriot Meadows, Ruth Carver, Lonzo Drake, Fred Drake, and Shirley Mingle. She was a member at Kingwood Heights Church of Christ and later at Crescent Church of Christ. She loved children and teaching Bible classes. She was involved in various clubs and organizations, including Bethel Homemakers Club, Red Hat Society, which she served as Queen Mother, Rutherford County Democratic Women’s, which she served as President, and volunteered at the Rutherford County Hospital as a Pink Lady. She worked at Gene Hardiman Reality, Rutherford County Board of Realtors, and later owned Grandmama’s Playhouse Visitation with the family will be 4:00-7:00 pm, Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Murfreesboro Funeral Home and Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 1:00pm until service time at 2:00pm with Ralph Richardson officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery Woodbury, TN. Pallbearers include her grandchildren, Hunter Faulk, Austin Tipton, Seth Markum, Jeremy Jones, Austin McDaniel and her nephew, Bentley Porterfield and Cole Sims.
