Flora Jean Pope, age 71, of Smyrna, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at St. Thomas Rutherford. Jean was born in Wilson County to Lee Isla and John Carmack Hunter. She was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, attending Corinth, Florence, and Burnette Chapel. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, John Carmack and Lee Isla Eakes Hunter; brothers, John (Bug) Carmack Hunter, Jr., Norman (Sparky) Hunter; and son, Keith DeWayne Pope. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, David Owen Pope; sons, Barry Layne (Michelle) Pope of Smyrna, and Brian Craig (Stephanie) Pope of Murfreesboro, daughter-in-law, Dora Pope of Murfreesboro; four grandchildren, Brandon, Ashlyn, Noah and Madelyn; sisters, Helen Leonard of LaVergne, Kate McDaniel of LaVergne, and Brenda (Larry) Gleaves of Hermitage; brother, Lonnie (Charlene) Hunter of Smyrna; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Monday, September 21, 2015, from 4-8 p.m. at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2015, at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Jim Bryant officiating. Burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Richard Hunter, Joe Anderson, Hunter Anderson, Terry Gish, Donald Spivey, Tim Spivey, John Spivey and Tim Hodges. Mr Pope has requested in Lieu of flowers donations be made to SFT Awareness P O Box 366 LaVergne, TN 37086.
