Bettie Johns Smotherman Lofton was born March 8, 1915 in Wilson County, TN and she passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at NHC Healthcare Center in Murfreesboro at the age of 100. Bettie was the daughter of the late William Boone and Alice Estelle Lester Johns. She was an active member of the Blackman United Methodist Church, the Blackman Community Club and a member of the Blackman Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Lofton was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Charles Butler Smotherman, her second husband, E.G. Lofton, son Charles Rex Smotherman, brother, Hascal Johns and sister, Ida Lee Wright. Survivors include 2 grandsons, Charles Randy Smotherman of Rockvale and Jeffrey Smotherman of New Harmony, IN, two granddaughter-in-laws, Belinda Smotherman and Cindy Smotherman, four great-grandchildren, Nicole (Jason) Richardson of Rockvale, Brooke Smotherman of Brentwood, Andrea Smotherman of Lexington, KY and Sarah Smotherman of Orlando, FL, one great great granddaughter, Sarah Brooke Richardson of Rockvale, daughter-in-law, Mildred Smotherman of Murfreesboro, sister-in-law, Frances Johns, close friend, Betsy Williams and several loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Saturday, May 9, 2015 9 AM to 12 noon at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with funeral services beginning at noon, with Pastor Karen Barrineau officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
