Marvin Edward Allison, Sr., age 89, of Murfreesboro, passed away December 17, 2014 at TN State Veterans Home. Mr. Allison was born to the late William Henry Allison and Lula Mabel Hall Allison on December 17, 1925 in Evansville, IN. He was married to Velma Arnette Ervin Allison on November 30, 1953 and was a member of the Marshall Knob Baptist Church. Mr. Allison moved to Murfreesboro in 1986 after being a resident of Millington, TN. Mr. Allison was retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 22 years. Mr. Allison served in the U.S. Army for 2 years and 18 years in the U.S. Marines where he retired a proud marine with the rank of Staff Sgt. E-6. He served in WWII where he received the Bronze Star and also served in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Walter H. Horne and a sister, Mary Allison Barrett. Mr. Allison is survived by his wife of 61 years, Velma Arnette Ervin Allison of Murfreesboro, son, Marvin Edward Allison, Jr. (Tammy) of Bakersfield, CA, 2 daughters, Patricia Gail Allison Causley of Murfreesboro, Laura Christine Allison Savage (Andrew) also of Murfreesboro, 8 grandchildren, Melinda Causley Davy (Billy), John W. Causley III, Jason Causley (Melissa), Sally Allison DeLeon (Gil), Elizabeth Allison Basham (Tony), Austin Allison, Savannah Savage, Sarah Kate Savage; 7 great grandchildren, Kelsie Davy, Morgan Davy, Emily Kate Davy, Bryleigh Causley, Aubrey Causley, Dylan Basham, Nicole Basham, niece Millicent Leiter (Elmer) of Murfreesboro, Alison Gromen (Fred) of Austin, TX, sister-in-law Bea Royals, brothers-in-law Milton Ervin (Betty), Larry Ervin (Cindi), Lloyd Ervin (Alma), Roger Ervin (Vicki), Hoyte Barrett, "and many wonderful nieces and nephews that he loved so dearly". Also special friends Arnie and Karen Gomez and staff and friends of TN State Veterans Home who provided excellent care. Visitation will be held Friday, December 19, 2014 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and again on Saturday, December 20, 2014 from 12:00 pm until 1 PM at Murfreesboro Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm in the Chapel at Murfreesboro Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Frazier officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery with Military Honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Wounded Warriors Project, Alzheimer's Association or the Marines Toys for Tots Program.
