Obituary of Abbie Benson
Abbie Brinkley Benson, age 99, went to her heavenly home on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Tennessee State Veterans Home. She was born on July 15, 1917 to Edgar and Daisy Brinkley in Rutherford County.
Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ellis "Doc" Benson; sisters, Azilee Brinkley, Annalaura Rowlette, Ophelia Hayes, Frances Sage, Pat Williams, Barbara Stokes; brothers, William Brinkley and Tom Brinkley.
She is survived by her three children, Jimmy Benson (Juanita), Judy Benson Cooper (Bob), Jerry Benson (Janice); 8 grandchildren, Reba Markum (Keith), Ellis Cooper (Michelle), Troy Cooper (Penny), Terry Cooper (D'ann), Diana Burns (Nathan), Chris Benson, Joanna Jones (Jeremy), and Andrea Benson Jones. Sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She lived her life as an example to all by living by her Christian Faith. She was a member of the Church of Christ. So many people loved Abbie and none more so than the incredible staff at the Tennessee State Veterans Home who treated her with such loving respect and care. She will be loved and missed by many.
Pallbearers will be Ellis Cooper, Troy Cooper, Terry Cooper, Chris Benson, Jeremy Jones, Elgin "Buddy" Oliver, and Jim Thompson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at Murfreesboro Funeral Home from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 11:00am with visitation 10:00 am until service time with Bro. Jamie Byrom, Bro. Bryan Sircy and Bro. Kevin Markum officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
